well, the time for the conventions soon approaches, and i'm interested in seeing everyone else's opinions of the speeches, candidates, and platforms.
as of this point, i've been fairly impressed with how Obama has run his campaign, although i don't care for the negative campaigning that he is turning to recently. i understand that McCains campaign has been the mud slinging express so far, and that many of Obama's supporters are clamoring for him to increase the attack ads on his opponent, but i was hopeful that he would stay above those types of attacks and run a clean campaign with his positions on the issues at the forefront.
that may be a bit naive of me, but i was hopeful.
There are many things that McCain has said that flat out scare me, and these have solidified my view that i don't want him in office.
1) His comment at a town hall that we are unable to chase Bin Laden to the gates of hell without a draft. my sons shouldn't have to go fight a war that this man starts, and from what i've seen with the Georgia situation and how McCain has handled it war is all we will know during a McCain presidency.
2) The drill drill drill for oil mentality. This view is fundamentally flawed, and will never help us in the short or long term to solve our energy problems. on this issue, i agree with Obama's views on a multidimensional approach involving wind, solar, geothermal, hydro, and any other self sustaining energy technology we can discover. reduce our Oil consumption and the prices will go down, until there is no more oil in the earth (it is a finite resource, no matter what some right wing author's claim.)
3) The inability for McCain to articulate himself. we've had enough leadership that can't speak without tripping over his words in Bush. its time for a president that can speak to the nation and world and be listened to instead of mocked. half of the reason the world has the view of the US that it does is our current president's inability to speak clearly and persuasively without using the words "terrorist".
i'm interested in what everyone else has to say regarding this election, as i think that it will have an incredible effect on the course of world events for decades to come.
