i was 2 when my mother took me to see 'A New Hope' at the drive in. i was a fan ever since, and aside from the prequels that were a disappointment for the most part, i love the universe and mythology that expanded from this initial story.
As the prequels unfolded, i was interested to see how the republic senate was manipulated into becoming the Empire. i see many correlations to modern day politics and this fictional time period, and the response to the wall street crash by McCain brought this to mind.
9/11 commission and now a wall street commission are McCain's plan. Commissions were how the Galactic Senate delayed action on topics that would not be in the interest of the shadow government. This has eerie correlations to the present day. the 9/11 commission was entirely too late to do any good, and wasn't listened to in the end. All commissions do is divert the focus onto a group of people that may not have the interests of the people at heart.
The other topic that i find echoing into modern US politics is the doctrine of fear put into action by Governor Tarkin in Star Wars. This doctrine of fear begins with dividing citizens of the republic into human and alien subgroups, and starts with a xenophobic movement. hmmm, sounds similar to the conservative war on liberalism to me...
i'm sure there are more, and i'll jot them down as they come to me.
