Obama wants to ban automatic and semi automatic rifles that are being used by criminals in inner cities. there is also talk of handgun restrictions, but i've been unable to verify that one way or the other. he has said that he supports the 2nd amendment, and Biden stuck his foot in his mouth telling Barack to not try to take his shotguns and beretta. so for hunters and most gun enthusiasts Obama will not restrict your rights to bear arms in any way. for those who want m16s or HK mp-5s, well, those might not be available to non military/law enforcement personnel. and Welcome to the Forums!

you know Ive read some of your posts and I'm guessing your a die hard democrat am i right? Ive always wondered what a democrat thinks they are accomplishing by banning guns to law abiding citizens. i mean guns are a commodity just like tobacco and alcohol and nobody in their right mind would even think of banning any certain types of alcohol or banning cigars because they are to strong and are bad for you. With that said more people die because of drunk drivers or tobacco related cancer than guns per day. The only thing i can think of and correct me if I'm wrong on this is that democrats lawmakers believe they know whats best for people. This is my belief, people define themselves by the choices they make and having free will thats what America is all about being able to be whatever you want to be. please i want to know the logic behind the mind of the democrat and spare no detail in describing your belief and your party's belief in gun control. thanks for the welcome it is much appreciated it helps to understand the democrat as it seems to look like obama might just win this one.

i've always identified myself more along the libertarian republican political ideal, but the only republican candidate that i really liked this election cycle was Ron Paul. he has the right ideas, and in an election between him and Obama i would have chosen Ron Paul. i think that the democrat platform this election is the best path for the United States this election. i see the diversity in their party and feel that it more accurately represents the country. i have many friends and family who are avid hunters, and my mother-in-law is an avid gun enthusiast. i don't feel that a person's right to own guns is mine to take away, but i feel that we have an obligation to keep automatic rifles out of the hands of criminals. i think that safety checks and needing permits to own and carry firearms are not that big of an issue for those who wish to own them, and would greatly assist in keeping guns out of the hands of most criminals (the black market gun trade is a different matter entirely, and something that needs to be addressed). So honestly, my dislike of the republican candidate and those who spoke at his convention might have misled my true beliefs. i try to be rather objective in what i post, but as always a little bias will show based on my writing style. i feel that the individual's rights precede any rights of government, as long as the individual is doing no harm. because of the problems of poverty, ignorance, and hate that flourish in our society, we need to have some sort of regulation on owning firearms in an attempt to protect the average citizen. i feel that if we need a license to drive a motor vehicle, having similar registration along with background checks is completely reasonable and restricting access to automatic weapons is also a good thing for society. i enjoy discussing these issues because only by rational discussion can a compromise that is acceptable to both sides be reached. as some of my posts show, i value solid logic behind philosophical arguments (although sometimes i don't make the most valid arguments myself). i'm not the type of person who feels that i'm right and those who don't agree with me are wrong, because based on new information many of our strong beliefs can be changed to something different. better to keep an open mind than to deprive yourself of new data. Edit: i found this on Obama's website. it is the only thing that i saw about gun ownership. that page has a link to a .pdf file that fully explains Obama's position. hope that helps. www.barackobama.com/issues/additional/#sportsmen

alot of good points and i can tell you with good knowledge that Ron Paul from what i heard has the best gun laws than any other candidate. There is already a ban on automatic weapons that Carry's a 5 year sentence for possession of an automatic gun. Now that being said when it comes to owning an automatic weapon or a suppressor or a sawed off shotgun it is not impossible to own these weapons and to legally get one you have to go through a TON of paperwork and also have a good knowledge on how to create living wills. Automatic weapons cannot "Legally" be bought brand new there is a cut off date on them i think its like 1980 or something like that and if you want to buy one oh better have a huge amount of money to throw away not only on ammo but an m16 full auto "legal" gun is gonna cost around 18000 dollars i believe because supply and demand makes these guns super expensive. When i bought my first gun i spent an hour filling out paperwork and put my social security number on a form and had to show my drivers license then had to wait 15 Min's for a guy to call and do a back round check then i could finally leave with gun in hand. When it comes to criminals owning guns from what Ive heard if they have committed a felony crime they don't get the right to own guns. I think the city's having lots of gun violence should really use police and local authorities to crack down on the black market gun trade before making laws that take away more rights from law abiding citizens. Not to mention smart career criminals would diversify their crime portfolio such as not specializing in just selling drugs but guns as well. We already have many gun control systems in place right now for the average citizen and to ban semi auto rifles is just not necessary i mean thats just taking away more choices from the average consumer especially one who wants to get these weapons in their collection. Yeah i was right i looked up Ron Paul and gun control in goggle and heres what i found www.ontheissues.org/2008/Ron_Paul_Gun_Control.htm yeah i remembered correct Ron Paul does have the best gun control laws.
