first off, i was glad that Palin didn't bomb this debate like she did the past few interviews. That would have killed her as a politician and just gotten really ugly.
Biden was the clear winner of the debate because he answered all the questions that the moderator asked, and had rebuttals to all of Palin's talking points. Palin threw some good one liners and zingers, but had no way to counter Biden's rebuttals or counterpoints.
Biden did start out slow, not really wanting to throw any punches Palin's way at first, but after the first 30 minutes of the debate it was clear that Palin had no way to counter his points because they weren't scripted. Biden's experience and mannerisms were much more natural, and not as canned and scripted as Palin's. Palin's evasion of the questions that she was asked really turned me off, as i wasn't interested in hearing about her life (i've gotten plenty of that already...), but instead i wanted to hear about what she thought on these issues. it was smart strategically for her to avoid questions that she was not comfortable with, but i got sick of hearing about energy when asked a question about the economy...
I'd say that Biden won pretty handily, just because he was able to answer the questions while connecting with the audience, while Palin avoided tough questions and relied on her connection to the audience, and i just didn't connect with her like many of the conservative pundits feel that i should have.
