ABC News' Imtiyaz Delawala, traveling with Palin, reports that a Palin supporter in Johnstown, Pa., today was holding a Curious George monkey doll on which he'd put an Obama sticker.
At a McCain event, as the crowd waited for McCain himself to arrive, Pastor Arnold Conrad of the Grace Evangelical Free Church of Davenport, Iowa, gave an invocation that included the following: "I would also pray, Lord, that your reputation is involved in all that happens between now and November, because there are millions of people around this world praying to their god—whether it's Hindu, Buddha, Allah—that his opponent wins, for a variety of reasons. And Lord, I pray that you will guard your own reputation, because they’re going to think that their God is bigger than you, if that happens. So I pray that you will step forward and honor your own name with all that happens between now and Election Day."
i hope that all McCain supporters will see this thread and my response to it.
placing an obama sticker on a monkey is about is racist as it gets, and considering that campaign spokespeople have call Obama's barbs at McCain 'spears' highlights that they are comfortable making this election about race. This is the most disgusting thing i have ever seen, making the smears about Kerry being a traitor seem trivial in comparison. To think that you have the gall to think God is on your side as you conduct yourselves in this racist manner is disgusting, and your judgment will come when you meet your maker. Jesus said, "love your neighbor", not love your white neighbors, or your Hispanic neighbors, or your black or asian neighbors, but all of your neighbors. Racism is the dark side of America's past, and now it is being brought back forth because of ignorance, intolerance, and deception fueled by the McCain campaign.
i've long stated that if Obama is elected president there will be assassination attempts, and this was before Obama won the democrat nomination. i knew that this hatred of African Americans still existed and that there would be some radical that would attempt to kill the first African American president because of those deep seated ignorant beliefs that Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, and all other immigrants weren't "true" Americans. To not acknowledge this undercurrent would be naive, and i've too often heard racial slurs from my family members to discount this.
With the way that the McCain/Palin campaign have conducted themselves, especially over the past week, as far as i'm concerned they are now guilty of being accessories to murder when these assassination attempts occur. They are inflaming the issue by their denials of what their supporters are doing, and Tucker Bounds and Nichole Wallace are ignoring and fueling this racial hatred of Barack Obama by publicly denying that there are these hate chants coming from their rallies (off with his head, kill him, terrorist, and bomb obama have all been caught on tape at rallies). The entire McCain camp is a disgusting cross between the neocons, neonazis, and KKK enthusiasts, and they have no hope of being able to bring this country together after their divisive messages in the hopes of resurrecting McCain's campaign as the economy continues to drop.
I'm glad that McCain publicly stated that Obama is not arab, not muslim, and there is no reason to be scared of an Obama presidency. the fact that he was booed by at his rally for saying this earned back a small measure of my respect for him. Palin, however, continues her pitbull attack on Ayers and Obama associating with terrorists, while her own fucking husband as recent as 2001 was a MEMBER of the AIP (Alaskan Independence Party), and she spoke at this secessionist group in 2008 saying, "Keep up the good work". i can think of no greater domestic terrorist group than one who works to remove itself from the United States of America, and this sticks out in comparison to the Weather Underground, which spoke out against the Vietnam war when the truth about American involvement there came out.
Now, i don't profess that the electorate must put away their beliefs in conservative philosophy and vote Obama to prove they are not racists. What i do say is that you must focus on the issues and policies of the republican candidate, and prove to the electorate that McCain's platform is better for the country than Obama's. You can not do this by spreading emails claiming that Obama is an arab, a muslim, or a terrorist sympathizer. These are all LIES! You can not prove this by distorting what Obama's record and policies are, that is a straw man argument and is invalid argument logic. you can not prove that your platform is better by distracting the electorate on tenuous associations of Obama with Ayers and Wright, these are red herring arguments and invalidate logical arguments.
As a person who has very conservative views on the role of government, i've looked deep into the platforms of both candidates. As a McCain supporter in 2000, it was very hard for me to admit to myself that the Maverick sold out to the neocon establishment and the very people who smeared him to gain Bush the white house in 2000. Unfortunately, the facts were entirely too blatant for me to deny these things. Obama has been on display for 21 months campaigning, and the Wright, Ayers, ACORN, and all these other tenuous guilt by association tactics were used during the primary, and they didn't stick. Why does the McCain campaign think that they will work now?
They don't is the only answer i've come up with. Their only hope is that bringing up these associations will distract the public from the fact that McCain's platform is the exact same as Bush's from 2000. They lie about all their positions because the fact is Obama's policies are much better for America in all issues. McCain's platform is better for the lobbyists and Washington insiders that are running his campaign, but not better for America.
The future of America is at stake, and the direction the neocons have taken her has made the future very uncertain for her. McCain will continue the same policies that have: shipped millions of jobs overseas, that have weakened our ability to lead by example in the world, have strained our military to the point that we can not intervene in Genocide in Africa and Russian aggression, and have taken the freedoms that this country was founded on and made them an international joke.
For those of you who still think that McCain/Palin are innocent in the racial aspects they are playing, chew on this: In February, the RNC ran a survey asking its members how racist they would be able to go in a general election against Obama. To now deny that they are intentionally using racism to inspire their base is beyond ignorant, and the fact that there has been no comment condemning the hate speech spewed by participants in McCain/Palin rallies means that they are intentionally using Obama's race to motivate their base.
